About the Author
Richard Malott, PhD, BCBA-D, has been teaching behavior analysis for 50 years, 3 at Denison University and now 47 at Western Michigan University, working with BA, MA, and PhD students. Originally, he taught an intro behavior-analysis course to 1000 students per semester, who produced 1000 lever-pressing rats per year. Now, his students only condition 230 rats per year, but they also do 130 self-management projects and provide 13,500 hours of training to autistic children each year. Malott’s published research includes basic experimental work on schedules of reinforcement and stimulus control, and applied work on university instruction, organizational behavior management, self-management, and autism. In 1974, Malott co-founded the Midwestern Association for Behavior Analysis, which evolved into the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). He has presented in 14 countries and has received two Fulbright Senior Scholar Awards. In 2002, he also received the Award for Public Service in Behavior Analysis from ABAI). In 2009, he was elected to become a Fellow of ABAI. And in 2011-2012, he served as president of ABAI. In 2012, he also received a Distinguished Teaching Award from Western Michigan University. I do not like the way the information is presented in this book. The author makes it very difficult to understand the content because of the way the content is delivered. It seems very scattered and unthought out. If you like a book with clear examples and clear direction, this is not the book to use.However, I found the class worksheets to be very helpful and needed to better understand the concepts. These are a must if you are lost after reading the text.
This was probably one of the most fun textbooks I've ever read for a class! It's written in such a relaxed and engaging way. It did not feel like knowledge was being shoved down my throat. It felt as if the writers were just acquaintances having an interesting chat in which I learned a lot from. The little stories and dialogue really helped the concepts stick and made learning the material extremely clear and comprehensive!
This is my favorite textbook because it's written in a way that really facilitates learning. It repeats important lessons and provides checkpoints for you to make sure you know where you stand in your training. I highly recommend this book not only for students, but for anyone studying/working with behavior analysis.

This book is great for learning to become a behavior analyst. Very detailed with great examples... Even though the field has tons of terminology, the textbook is easy to read and process.

Easy read , difficult to follow , author is all over the place. The author uses the book as a guide and as a chapter book confusing till you understand the format. Not your typical dry textbook. Lots of examples that fit any occasion this is an ABA book not a psych book . Funny at times. Should be hard cover.
